Chorlton Precinct sold

I gather the precinct has changed hands again - does this pave the way for the long-awaited redevelopment? Will be interesting to see how the anti-Tesco lobby react to the opening of a Booths .....

Re: Sunday lunch

You are entitled to your opinion, but I think Costa Coffee tastes ok, and it's consistent. What I don't like is the price, but I bet if you are unhappy with your coffee at Costa, they will change it for you, or give you a refund and apology. Elsewhere, that may not be the case, and certainly not wi...

Re: Moving advice needed...

I live in Chorlton because of it's location, it's atmosphere and most of my friends live here. If you can't find those criteria, move. If I got a load of money, I'd simply move to somewhere like Wilbraham Road, St Werburghs Road, Chandos Road, Egerton Road North or somewhere like that. I wouldn't l...

Re: New leisure centre at Hough End: More consultation

Not sure how good your grasp of local geography is, but maybe this map will help you. http://bit.ly/1jBnDrx Feel free to try the measuring tool, I think you'll find 900 yards is something of an mis-under-estimation. If I've time I might try measuring the population within, say, a 15 minute walk of ...

Re: New leisure centre at Hough End: More consultation

Chorlton has a local centre that can be used by everyone, is bang in the middle of Chorlton, is immediately accessible by bus, and is well-served by local shops. This Hough End complex is miles away... Last time i checked, Chorlton Leisure Centre was on the outskirts of Chorlton, about 300 yards up...

Re: Horse & Jockey Fireworks

they put on a great display, but I wonder if perhaps it was a bit too busy? No chance of getting a drink on the green or in the H&J, we eventually repaired to the Bowling green and watched from their beer garden. I think there must have been people coming in from far and wide, it was rammed! Jac...

Re: Good/bad local customer service?

I'm not trying to claim he's the Deli Lama, mate, just trying to give a bit of balance to your comments. I find him and the other staff to perfectly affable and I am as scrote-like as they come. I've never tried Hickson and Blacks, but their claim to be the best bacon butty purveyors in the area ha...

Re: the Bowling Green...

I think it has been for the past 25 years, not sure before that. Hmmmm. Used to drink in there a few years back. Don't remember the owners or the majority of the clientele being Irish or there being any flags, etc. Would say it's probably a nice middle ground between rough locals pub and noncey ale...

Re: Closing down... opening up

It is pretty self evident that there are less families with children in Chorlton, than there were in years gone by. This is much to do with the demographics in Chorlton changing significantly from blue collar families with lots of kids, to whatever Chorlton has become today. A pub the size of your ...

Re: Closing down... opening up

Can't even buy toys in Woolworths any more. I could do all of my Christmas shopping in Chorlton when my kids were little. It's a bit sad that every time a shop closes it' seems to be replaced with a bar or a takeaway. Chorlton was very family oriented when we moved back here from London in 1990. No...

Re: A lot of police activity at High Society yesterday eveni

From walking past last night, it appears to be the car wash place (set back between Leo's and High Society). 5 police cars, a poilce van, crime scene taped off and a forensics van later on. Though it could be there is a back enterance to High Society (presumably that costs extra)? Always thought a ...

A lot of police activity at High Society yesterday evening .

.. anyone know if they were busted, or was it something else? Twitter seems to suggest it was premises behind High Society, or even the carpet place. Would seem ironic that they would park up about 6 police vehicles in front of High Society on what was clearly a big police operation, and then ignore...

Re: Chorlton, the tram and the forth coming Didsbury extensi

I understand there will be double trams as they are closing Mosley Street for good on Saturday. Apparantly this will allow double trams to go on South Manchester line etc. Whilst Metrolink often do the opposite of what is needed, i cant see how they could reasonably expect to provide just a single ...
