Re: Chorlton's high street gets stranger by the day

Makes me laugh when "incomers" start complaining about newer incomers. I got here in 1996 and remember thinking when Polar Bar opened "a trendy bar in Chorlton - that'll never catch on...".

I'm often wrong.

Re: Soup etiquette

Or ask for it in a mug.

Yeah - spoon away from you, and when going for the dregs, if you need to tip the bowl, tip that away from you as well.

Re: Mauldeth Road / Trams

I thought the airport trams were (allegedly) going to run 24 hours. Is that no longer the case? Or just not the case until Victoria and 2cc are finished? I had also been looking forward to a closer to 6 minute wait between trams, but they do seem to remain pretty close to each other as far as I can ...

Re: Mauldeth Road / Trams

I was super impressed by that this morning. Although from a distance it looked as though the time to the next tram was 6618 minutes, which was worrying until I gt closer and worked out what was going on...

Re: Wiped clear laptop question

Sorry... what EXACTLY are you trying to achieve here? Are you just talking shit for your personal enjoyment, or is this yet another "bait Annie" thread, like so many others? Trying to stop someone using a dangerously insecure system for things like online banking. I'm not victimising you ...

Re: Wiped clear laptop question

Scaremongering flimflam. In the real world, such things rarely affect home users behind a firewalled router. Corporate networks are far more vulnerable. As I said, if you're happy running insecure computers that's your business. I don't. You've gone from 90% of attacks being browser and mail based ...

Re: Wiped clear laptop question

Stating something as fact doesn't make it a fact, Annie.

If you're happy with 10% of attacks getting through (your figures), fine. I just wouldn't be.

Re: Wiped clear laptop question

You're kidding aren't you?? Linux is a pain in the ass, especially for end users used to Windows OSs. As for XP... it remains perfectly serviceable for older laptops with limited hardware. This "support" argument is kinda immaterial to people who are not in a corporate environment, as the...

Re: Wiped clear laptop question

Hardly anyone except computer people use Linux. It's non-standard and tricky for the uninitiated. I've been a computer professional for over 25 years and even I don't like it. A "flattened" computer will need an OS first. XP is still viable, and cheap as chips. I'm surprised by that. Not ...

Re: Dogs in Beech Road Park

I'd have thought that the website's meaning was that dogs are not allowed in the childrens' play area or games area. Why would the council install dung bins if dogs weren't allowed at all?

No more Hardy Farm

This planning application went in a while ago. Doesn't look like too much of a worry to me, but there was some chatter on Facebook about ownership of the meadows. I'd assumed it was publicly owned, but apparently not...

Re: How long is a tram journey to Ashton?

The TFGM jorney planner says it's one hour and three minutes including a 16 minute wait to change at St Peter's Square. Seems to be the same whatever time I say I want to get there by. I agree - Greater Manchester's transport information is all over the place. It's mad that you can get more detailed...

Re: Mobile phone reception in the H&J

There always seemed to be a black hole of zero Vodafone reception in a triangle between the Trev, the Whore and my old house off Ivy Green Road. I got an SMS from them a week or so ago apologising for any disruption while they put up new cells in the area. Maybe it'll improve. Probably not...

Re: Crime!

Having written this I was in two minds about whether to post it, because I really like it here and couldn't live anywhere else. But... The level of theft, burglary, attempted burglary and criminal damage near my place over the last few years has also been absolutely shocking. The most recent was jus...
