Re: Closing down... opening up

Morrisons sold off their loss making convenience store chain (which later went bust), but went ahead with the property deal anyway.

Re: Selling a house with a tenant question

I guess it's a shame the tenant doesn't want to buy the house, or maybe they haven't been asked? Buy-to-let has worked out badly for many and this has increased incidents of landlords treating their tenants shodilly.

Re: Anyone else tried Chorlton's new wine bar yet?

Incredible, jaw-dropping snobbery of the worst kind. Trying now to figure out if you've just been a troll all along... Sorry Annie, but sadly people living in England's poorest neighbourhoods live seven fewer years than those in the richest. How do you explain that, if it is not a product of lifest...

Re: Anyone else tried Chorlton's new wine bar yet?

munchkin wrote:So where does your disgust at someone drinking Lavazza sit in your argument about snobbery ?

That's purely aimed at the pretension expressed in Blenk's previous post, where he boasts of drinking Lavazza as if it were something special.

Re: Anyone else tried Chorlton's new wine bar yet?

Wetherspoons have 886 pubs and turnover £1,280.9m so the average pub turns over £27,802 a week. The Sedge is one of their smaller pubs.

Re: Anyone else tried Chorlton's new wine bar yet?

Blenk's argument seems to rest on Wetherspoons turning over more than anyone, bar McDonalds and KFC. But if quantity equals quality as suggested, it is genuinely hard to see why he isn't arguing that McDonalds and KFC are Chorlton's best restaurants. Similarly, he argues that because Wetherspoons sh...

Re: Anyone else tried Chorlton's new wine bar yet?

Blenk It's highly unlikely anyone (not even Wetherspoons) outsells McDonalds or KFC. That doesn't mean the are Chorlton's best food offerings, but that they cater to lowest common denominator. It is amusing that you felt sophisticated washing down your ham and eggs with Lavazza which, as I said, lac...

Re: Anyone else tried Chorlton's new wine bar yet?

Ollie's comment reminds me of standing behind someone in Little Chef who was asking why eggs were off the menu, but omelettes were not. The answer was that the omelettes arrive ready made and frozen. The cooks are not required to be so skilled they can make an omelette from scratch. There's always b...

Re: Anyone else tried Chorlton's new wine bar yet?

The screaming agism in that post is quite simply disgusting. Ouch! I guess this is revenge for dissecting Annie's dodgy post on immigrant taxi drivers . I could try to deny ageism by pointing out that not all of the decaying bodies in the Sedge Lynn are especially old, but are instead showing the s...

Re: Anyone else tried Chorlton's new wine bar yet?

I quite like the alcohol fueled bonhomie at the Sedge Lynn, what marks it down is the 'airport hanger' next door, with it's warehouse style storage of the deceased former patrons of the Sedge. I understand this is written with irony. The last time I entered to Sedge it was to use the toilet. I know...

Re: Is Chorlton up its own RS or what?

There's something really said about trolling a forum like this. I deeply loathe the Welsh village my parents moved us to when I was 15. They too have a forum like this full of people up their arses, but I've always resisted the temptation to get myself an anonymous identity and spend my days remindi...

Re: Closing down... opening up

Oswaldgold has it right. That Tesco is only a forecourt store after all (and it's where Barbakan get their petrol, funnily enough). All that fuss was ridiculous. Had it been a Co-op forecourt nobody would have said a word. (I meant Nisa, rather than Londis on Beech Road, easily confused.)

Re: Closing down... opening up

Tesco Express, Co-op, Etchells and Londis clearly do compete with each other all being in close proximity and with similar product offers. The assertion that Etchells would close if Tesco Express opened on Beech Road is just rather silly hyperbole. It assumes Etchells is quite poor next to Tesco. If...
