I'd love to see the old disused buildings put to better use, either restored or knocked down and the sites used. I am suggesting the old Employment Centre on the tram spur to Piccadilly train station, opposite the court. It's an ugly, deteriorated mess that should have been the site for such new con...

This is what I witnessed: 1 part blue wicked 1 part smirnoff ice 1 part Bacardi breezer All served in a pint glass, I think they call it a "What the f**k are you looking at?". That's known as a "phat frog" amongst my mates. I think it came over from Ireland. It's quite sickly an...

AOL is better if you avoid their own browser (full of adverts and rubbish), and install Firefox instead (http://www.mozilla.com). You'll need to sign into AOL from the icon in the task bar (bottom right of the screen). Let's not turn this into a geeky browser debate though, I'm just saying this to o...

I have done, particularly with one line or short emails.

Try sending a longer message.

Marvin, I second that. I went to the quiz 2 weeks ago and was so frustrated by her rambling on and unfunny pretending-to-be-French, that we left before the end.

We wouldn't have won anyway, but that's not the point.

My cat lived to 19, in good health 'til 17. She certainly wasn't ready to be killed at 12!

Sorry Flip but what does BBS stand for? I know what you're getting at, but I think it's fair to say that, if anything, the readership of The Guardian or any other newspaper is more broad than the readership of Chorlton.web. As there are no rules for criticising use of smileys, I will continue to do...

I thought only 7% of communication was verbal You've been on a course haven't you! Are you in sales or customer service/support? When I type a joke people should be able to tell if it's a joke. Before the days of email and forums, if I wrote someone a letter, I never put a smiley face on. When a jo...

I thought only 7% of communication was verbal (i.e. words). So when typing, we need all the clues we can get to make up for the tone of voice and body language that cannot be communicated in type. I think smilies, when used well, can help with that. For example, I might send my mate a sarcastic or c...

There is (was) an Irish music session at the Feathers every Monday night. Alright once you slip past the resident characters, the music was all in one room tucked away.

Does anyone know where they have gone to?

Ash trays - what are we going to do with them all?

From Sunday, there will be thousands of ashtrays spare, from every pub/bar/club... what will we do with them all?

I guess most will be binned, and some recycled (glass ones), but what about the rest?

I got through yesterday, it was a maze of pressing the right number at the right time... think it was 1, 2, 4, 0. Try pressing 0 at any time, that was the one that finally got me through to a person. I haven't tried pressing it other than when prompted though. At least it's really a local number 016...
