The Feathers

the place on the chorlton bulletin board for vegetable-spread related chatter and other matters...it's the first, the best and it's currently hack free.

The Feathers

So has anyone been in yet?

If I remember correctly the landlady was on here a couple of months ago. I hope she's doing ok. I imagine it's not the easiest pub in the world to manage.

I heard the new landlords are "very interesting characters" from Merseybank

Haven't been in for years but noticed it was open recently.

Will call in shortly for a pint out of curiosity, although I don't like the transitional period after a pub reopens when most of the main reasons why it closed in the 1st place tend to crawl out of the woodwork.

Will keep ya's posted when I make it in (survival permitting :D )

hasn't this only just had a new landlord? Does the selling of the lease mean the same thing as having a new landlord? I get confused by the whole pub business.

New landlord used to mean that the brewery had appointed a new manager to one of its pubs, but it now is more likely to mean that someone has bought (or taken out) the lease from the freeholder - effectively buying the business but NOT the freehold.

This is how most of the large pub companies make their money, they give out leases and charge rent and they also usually stipulate you have to buy all your beer supplies from them (this is what 'tied' means).

I think what the Feathers needs is a total redevelopment but that would only be done by the freeholder.

So is the new Landlady moving on then? She sounded fiesty enough to make a go of the place. Has she done an effective 'turnaround' job and is now moving on, or have things not gone as hoped? Anyone know? Whatever the story, well done to her for having a go. It was not good to see it lying empty.

Ahhhh it used to be my local when I had my first of 2 stints in Chorlton. The place was not great but I drank with some great friends there.

Been there a few times in the day/evening, but, like the vampire's lair, not to be entered after dark!
One must always be wary of the march of the right-wing. I advocate public flogging/confiscation of assets/rehoming of their young
