Local Drama - A Streetcar Named Desire

Postby Chorlton Players » Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:49 pm

Chorlton Players’ 50th Anniversary season continues with Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire.

Living a raw and passionate life in New Orleans, Stella and her husband, Mr Stanley Kowalski, are unaware that there is anything wrong with their existence, that is, until the arrival of Stella’s older sister, Blanche Dubois. Shocked at the multi-cultural, impoverished and often violent world she finds her sister living in, and harbouring dark secrets of her own, the reality of which she is unable to handle, Blanche is overtly frank about her feelings, and her delusions are overwhelming to both herself, and those around her. Her superior attitude does not bode well with Stanley who fears for his marriage in light of her frankness. Oblivious to Stanley’s growing rage, Blanche is hopeful that her future may be brighter when she falls for Mitch, but upon discovering the truth about Blanches’ past, Stanley reveals all, thus beginning Blanches’ final demise. The unfolding of this deluded and tragic character, will leave audiences as much heartbroken as frustrated, and questioning their initial perceptions of everything. With a sterling cast performance, this is a show not to be missed.
