the place on the chorlton bulletin board for vegetable-spread related chatter and other matters...it's the first, the best and it's currently hack free.
I'd consider The Angel on Rochdale Road to be the best pub in Manchester city centre. It's a really friendly place, always welcoming to new faces but at the same time has a definite locals feel, with a real mixed clientele. They have a whole bar of pumps, with several real ales, porters and ciders. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They serve food aswell which is very good by pub-grub standards. There's a great triangle of boozers around Ancoats which are all superb, the previously-mentioned Marble Arch and The Castle being the other two. For me there aren't many great traditional watering holes left in the city centre, so this mini-crawl's always a good shout.
