Chick Chick Chicken Cam 2014

Postby Louise » Fri Apr 25, 2014 2:55 pm

We didn't raise any babies last year. We had a lot of rescue chickens instead. This year we are, and they are due to hatch on 28/29 of this month. With any luck. It's always hard to imagine that an anonymous silent egg will produce a fluffy little spark of life. We have no idea what any of this years brood will look like as they are all hybrids. It should be interesting.

The web cam is up and running. the address is http://www.ustream.tv/channel/testchannel007

Ooh, chicks! Looking forward to this, thanks Louise.

On a related topic, we have a few more garden birds this year I think, after a mild winter. Has anyone else noticed this? Not very bird-friendly where I live, so any extra ones are very welcome. I think Ms Blackbird / Brownbird is preparing a nest, and even the magpies seem to be carrying twigs.

Shedloads of them here. They are starting to sing at about 3.20 at the moments. Lots of sparrows and chaffinches, swallows and blackbirds. We have a lot of collared doves as well which are noisy. This is also the time of year when we start to see bats in the garden when the sun sets.

All in all no shortage of birds here.

Oh, I like these. Nice little grey one there, hope that is a potential companion pecking his / her way out of the egg at top right?

Don't pin your hopes on the little grey one (Vivian Vance) She is not doing well. She has fluffy feet and can't work out how to use them. Not sure how she will go on. Last one arrived this afternoon. One of the nurses arrived to see me just as she hatched and named her Clover. Thats 17 safely delivered all together.

These are pics of the chicks as of today. 16 of them and all strong and healthy. Vivian Vance didn't make it. She just failed to thrive and died yesterday despite every effort to save her.
