Loud music in Chorlton til 4am last night (20/9/14)

Postby Fatbutts » Sun Sep 21, 2014 4:57 pm

Did anyone else hear the very loud music playing until after 4am last night? If so, any ideas where it was coming from? I tried to track it down by driving round but couldn't find it.

Yes I heard it and could hear the song lyrics all very clearly and thought it might be coming from the whalley range direction (we're chorlton/ whalley range borders) but think people heard it all across Chorlton so absolutely no idea where the party was.

Yes, thudding bassline woke me up at 5 am, on North Chorlton / W Range border.

Was very relieved to find it was not coming through the wall from the new neighbours, and am now equally relieved to find that it evidently wasn't from the street backing on to ours either. Reminded me of those relentless police helicopter days . . .

The source of the loud music was the student accomodation known as Monty Halls (Montgomery House, formerly the old YMCA building) on Demesne Road, Whalley Range - next to Alexandra Park.

The students have a rather nice outside seating area, and during term time they frequently have 'events' until the early hours, assisted by loudspeakers of the live concert variety.

Monty Halls are about 2 or 3 miles from the baths. It can't possibly be the source. I can't make out lyrics from gigs at Old Trafford cricket ground, which is nearer and I can't believe it was anything as loud as that.

Monty Halls to Chorlton Baths is less than 2 miles, possibly well less - as the crow flies. Oh, and it was definitely the source on that particular night, until after 5.00am.

Well it must've been defening to people who loved right next to it.

And there's pretty much nothing you can do about it.

Would it make the earth move at that volume?

I heard it too and it woke me up. It was so loud you could recognise what they were playing, not just the bass / beat. The music I heard was very old so surprised to hear it was student halls.

Is there really nothing that can be done? In future could we not phone the local police? Do we need to raise this with our local councillor John Hacking so we know how to deal with it should it happen again?

Monty halls is 1.3 miles from 4banks per t'interwebs so if it was so loud here it must have affected a huge area of south Manchester (I didn't hear it though).

And that place isn't just student accomm these days, although many students do live there. It's private flats, mostly owned by foreign investors, and there are for e.g. several taxi drivers who live there. If this was keeping people awake in Chorlton the volume nearerby must have been horrific.

I live about 500-750m from it as the crow flies and didn't hear a thing

I had a really funny joke, but autocorrect ruined the lunchtime.

I'm stunned this didn't make the national news...

"Students make noise during freshers week"

Big deal.
One must always be wary of the march of the right-wing. I advocate public flogging/confiscation of assets/rehoming of their young
