Urmston Choral to Perform 'A Ceremony of Carols' in Chorlton

Postby Morecambe123 » Wed Oct 25, 2017 2:41 pm

Urmston Choral Society is to celebrate Christmas by singing Benjamin Britten’s ‘A Ceremony of Carols’ at their annual festive concerts this year. Written in 1942, the cantata contains strains of Gregorian chants and is written in middle English. The Choir will also perform a variety of traditional and modern Christmas Carols including A Merry Little Christmas, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, That First Nowell and the Bell Carol arranged by the Choir’s accompanist, Gareth Curtis.

The concert will take place in St. Monica’s Church, Irlam Road, Flixton, on Wednesday, 13th December starting at 7.00pm accompanied by St. Monica’s School Choir and will be a repeat of their performance on Saturday, December 9 at St. Werburgh’s Church in Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, starting at 7.30pm, without the school choir.

Said Julie Parker, Urmston Choral’s Musical Director: “This festive masterpiece is one which we think our audience will really appreciate and enjoy. While we’re retaining some of those special Christmas songs which Choirs have sung for centuries, we’re also including pieces which put a new slant on old favourites.”

Tickets for the events cost £8 adults (£6 concessions, £2 children and students) and are available from Maxine Summers, Tel: 0161 748 0903, or Choir members. They may also be purchased at the venue on the nights of the concerts if still available. Further information about the events is available from the Choir’s website: www.urmstonchoral.org.uk
