Postby admin » Sun Jan 11, 2004 8:10 am

does anyone like it?
does anyone hate it?

the new-look home page represents my first attempt at a redesign.

please use this thread - and/or start others - reacting to the changes. I need to know what you think.

It's looking much cleaner and more up to date but my initial feeling was that it looked like an error message. I think the logo should be at the top and perhaps it's time for a new logo. But overall looking good.

I don't disagree (can't bring myself to say 'I agree') with the need for a new logo. Wouldn't mind holding some kind of compo, but we havent' really got enough users at the moment.
If anyone would like to submit a logo, we could showcase it and see what everyone thinks, of course.
The appearnace will gain a bit of colour at some stage. I'm a bit busy repairing my laptop at the moment!
Deus - thanks very much for your input.

I wouldn't worry about what people think so much...just a new logo would be nice.

I think Arial font (or the same all over) is easier to read. :D

Not bad! Let's hope it catches on and we get some interesting discussions going.

navigation

Postby Deus » Wed Jan 28, 2004 9:22 am

I think the navigation would look better on the left or the top - it's quite hard to find the links on the right.... What's the plan for a new logo ? Anyone sent any ideas in ?

nav on left or right: see your post in the park regen thread.
re. logo - no, I've not received anything. the problem is that i'm not a graphic designer, so the best I'm likely to come up with is a giffed-up block of text perhaps with an M21 or something in the background.
any samples would probably make it up there straight off!! i see no reason not to put a few different logos up - to start with anyway - until we settle on one.

more navigation

Postby Deus » Wed Jan 28, 2004 11:30 am

Navigation is better on the left...easy to see straight away.

You might not be able to make the logo but are there any logos around that you like?

Using CSS is definitely a step in the right direction.

The navigation menu could be an unordered list as could any other areas that list related information. Information listed in the directory could be organised using definition lists.

Placing the navigation menu on the right side of visual browsers is fine as long as it is clear that it is the main navigation for the site. In addition to providing a skip link for the navigation, you could put the content of the page first and then float the content div to the left and nav menu to the right. You could give users the option to select if the nav menu is on the left or the right, using CSS, a form, and cookies.

Chorlton Web new look

Postby elliej » Mon Feb 16, 2004 5:54 pm

Personally I liked the spider-web (it was instantly recognisable as this site), though not the pink, maybe it could be faded against the background.

The design has developed in a positive way: it's looking really good.
