Irish Club bar staff

Postby Drinkme » Sat Nov 05, 2005 4:39 pm

Is it just me or does anyone else find that the bar staff, at private functions, in the Irish Club ( excluding Margaret who was very pleasant ) are miserable, slow, unwelcoming, and generally have a demeanour that suggests they are not at all happy that we, as non-irish, are even in their club and given the choice they would rather not serve us ? They are paid to do a job and surely part of the job of a bar person is to at least occasionally smile ! That's how it seems to me. Answers on a postcard.

i've bin in n out of the irish club for years and yes they can seem a little sullen. there is one slightly older lady in particular who looks as though she really hates the world.

That's funny cos it seemed to be a lady of, let's say, more mature years who, on my last visit, had the more agreable manner. Perhaps there is more than one in this age group. The main thing is that someone else has had a similar experience to myself.

Mildly offensive ? I’m sorry you feel offended. Your subject title "irish bashing" is one you have made up and it infers racism or xenophobia. Nothing could be further from the truth and I think you have misinterpreted the intended purpose of this post. You could not wish to meet a more mild mannered and affable person than myself. The post merely serves to express how more than one person received poor service in this particular establishment on more than one occasion. It could have been any bar in any town but in this instance it happens to have the word “Irish” in front of it. In all my years I cannot recall ever having a problem in any other bar or club I have frequented, and that is plenty of bars. It would be better if, instead of defending poor service, the club management took the comments on board and actually tried to make improvements. There is no harm in constructive criticism. Of course you are quite entitled to express your opinion but, “Irish bashing” ? No. That IS offensive !

Oh don't worry, there's plenty of people here who will look for any non-existant racial slur and exaggerate it for their own sport. It's like a game of "let's see who's the most left-wing".
